GARDEN TO TABLE
Investing in future generations to empower New Zealand school children to grow, harvest, prepare and share their own fresh, nutritious and affordable kai.
In July 2024, we announced our sponsorship of New Zealand charity, Garden to Table. Garden to Table helps empower New Zealand school children to grow, harvest, prepare and share their own fresh, nourishing and affordable kai (food).
The schools teach children the knowledge and skills that have a transformative and lifelong impact on their wellbeing and on the world around them. In 2023, more than 32,000 primary and intermediate students grew, cooked, and ate more than 1,000,000 vegetable-based meals through Garden to Table!
Supporting communities to thrive, and working in harmony with nature, is at the heart of our connection with Garden to Table.
As part of this partnership, Comvita will also be donating honey to Garden to Table that they can use in food preparation and recipes, as a gut healthy alternative to sugar.
Partnering together, Comvita is now helping to support thousands of Kiwi kids to grow, harvest, prepare, and share their own fresh, seasonal kai. And we know the kids will love our delicious, tummy-friendly honey!
Tamariki get stuck in and get their hands dirty, with adults acting simply as observers and guides. Practical life skills develop alongside awareness of sustainability and environmentalism.
Hard work and patience pays off with a sense of achievement and whakahī, pride for children. Produce straight from the garden provides more nutritional benefits and it tastes better too!
Kids develop skills for life by cooking meals from scratch. Learning to use kitchen tools, weighing and measuring, and the science of food, all provides links to core curriculum concepts.
Everyone sits down to eat together, taking part in the age-old ritual of sharing food. Tamariki are often more adventurous about eating meals from food they have grown and prepared.
Last week, we proudly delivered 3,000 Pollinator Seed Balls and 125 kilos of Comvita Mānuka honey to 50 North Island schools as part of our partnership with Garden to Table.
These Seed Balls made from compost, clay powder, mixed pollinator seeds, and a splash of water were handcrafted by our Comvita whānau and are ready to plant or toss in the garden to create a haven for diverse pollinator species.
