Comvita’s Olive Leaf Extract is purely and proudly Australian Made with origins dating back to 1990s. Developed by a long line of Australian olive leaf experts, our olive leaf plantation was first founded by the Archer family in the 1990s after they had spent years cultivating and learning about olive trees on their land.
Born in an era of natural health enlightenment
So, why the 90s? The inspiration behind this uniquely Australian family venture came from a boom in international travellers who returned to Australia from the Mediterranean, enlightened by the many health benefits of olive-based products. Some of these include helping to support cardiovascular health and fighting the harmful effects of free radicals, and also the traditional use in Western herbal medicine for immune support.
Realising the Australian people had an incredible appetite for improving their health naturally, the Archer family decided that the idyllic bushland setting of Coominya – 83 kilometres west of Brisbane, Queensland Australia – would be a perfect location to establish their first official olive leaf grove.

With an excellent climate, fresh air and a good supply of water, the area around Coominya has been well known for its natural resources and agricultural prowess since as far back as the 1860s.(1)
Since the start, the olive leaf grove has gone from strength to strength with Comvita taking the reins in 2007 helping to grow the grove even more. Comvita itself was founded by two visionaries, Claude Stratford and Alan Bougen, who held a shared passion for producing natural products that improve the community’s health.

The Comvita™ olive leaf grove in Queensland is now one of the world’s largest having expanded to a total area of 245 hectares in 2013 with a second grove near Wivenhoe Dam.
Over the years, the popularity of Comvita’s Australian Made Olive Leaf Extract has been driven by ongoing research and a continuing passion for natural plant-based products that improve human health.
Starting with as many as 60 different types of olive tree from 12 countries, continued testing means the farm now only grows selected types of olive tree which produce the highest strength of extract with beneficial qualities.
From its farms in Queensland, Comvita is now selling over 1,000 bottles of Olive Leaf Extract every day and exporting to over 20 countries around the world.

But our Australian history, values and ability to the capture the unique natural riches from the country’s vast, fertile and unspoilt land is what makes Comvita’s Olive Leaf Extract totally unique. While our crop of 850,000 olive trees has steadily and sustainably grown thanks to our onsite nursery and propagation program, all our fresh leaves are passed through the extraction process within a few hours of harvest to capture the broadest spectrum of beneficial compounds – a quality that can never be achieved by products manufactured elsewhere from dry leaves.
